In 1999, the remarkable and accidental 24-7 prayer movement began. This is his story, told through the eyes of two 21st century pilgrims seeking to rediscover it afresh while raising deeply prophetic challenges about life and faith today.

Interviews: Pete Grieg talks to Premier.tv about God on Mute

petegreigprofilePete Greig Bio
Pete Greig is an author, church-planter and one of the founding leaders of 24-7prayer, a British charity which has grown in six years from a single night-and-day prayer room into an international, interdenominational Christian movement committed to prayer, mission and justice. Thanks to an innovative approach to spirituality and culture, 24-7 has captured the attention of newspapers and magazines from Rolling Stone to Readers Digest and was the subject of a British television documentary.

Proposed by Relevant Magazine as one of the top fifty 'Revolutionary Leaders' of his generation, Greig is a popular speaker and writer whose books have been translated into a number of languages. Pete Greig has spoken to hundreds of thousands of people on five continents, in venues as diverse as King's College, Cambridge, a bar in Missouri and a Jazz club in Stockholm.

It was amongst drug addicts in Hong Kong, whilst working with the missionary Jackie Pullinger, that Pete Greig really found his Christian faith and received what he describes as 'a clear call from God to go home to England'. Inspired by his experiences in Hong Kong, Pete decided to read Theology & Sociology at the University of Greenwich in London.

After graduating with a First class B.A. (Hons) Pete moved to Chichester on the South Coast of England and worked in a Care Home where he looked after young adults with severe Learning Disabilities.

In 1994 Pete married Samie, and for seven years served vocationally on the senior leadership team of Revelation Church, a non-denominational group of congregations in and around Chichester on the south coast of England. During this time, Pete and Samie established two new congregations for young people beyond the reach of traditional church culture. Pete also served nationally on the core team of Cultural Shift, a catalytic gathering of young leaders experimenting with fresh expressions of church within the emerging, post-Christian culture.

In 1999, sensing a call from God to a deeper life, Pete surrendered his local leadership responsibilities and with the student congregation of Revelation Church established a single, simple, night-and-day prayer room inspired by the Moravian hundred year prayer meeting. The idea caught on unexpectedly and became the 24-7 Prayer movement as it is known today. Soon after the conception of 24-7 and a few weeks after the birth of their second child, Samie became seriously ill and nearly died. This event profoundly altered the way they thought about life, prayer and eternity. The story is told in Pete's book Red Moon Rising.

In 2005 the Greig family returned to England from Kansas City where they spent a fun year establishing a national office for 24-7 Prayer, USA and eating Krispy Creme doughnuts. In 2006 they relocated to Guildford, Surrey where they now reside.
