Geraldine Latty

Geraldine was born in Crewe, Cheshire to George and Loleta Latty who are both from Jamaica in the West Indies. She is one of three daughters and also has two brothers – a close family, that was initially worshipping at a Pentecostal church in Crewe, moving later to a Methodist church in the same town for 10 years. (Her parents have now returned as pastors of the Pentecostal church)
After completing her A-levels, Geraldine moved to Bath to study Music where she graduated BA hons 3 years later. She then gained a teaching qualification and up to October 2000 was teaching at a school in Bristol for just over 12 years where she headed up the music of an active department. (One of the 3 choirs at the school was a Soul/Gospel choir)
She considered her role with other Christians at the school to be an important witness and in many ways this ‘earthed’ what was done in her ‘life’ outside school i.e. where she is involved in leading worship, workshops, etc
Geraldine has been involved in leading worship informally ever since she was a child whether at the Pentecostal church she attended with her family or later as a student at a local Methodist church for some years. She now attends a local Baptist Church where she has been involved in leading the worship and facilitating the music in worship team
However, she first began to be involved in national events through the now Director of Music at London School of Theology – David Peacock, and then through Spring Harvest – where she has led at both the reflective and Big Top celebration venues. She sees that God’s provision to her of different church experiences has only to served to enrich what she shares now with other churches
Leading worship or running workshops now involves some travel; Australia at the beginning of 2000 for the World Baptist Congress and again in 2001, as well as visits to Norway, Bulgaria, New Zealand, America, Albania and Amsterdam for the International Evangelists Conference, with extensive involvement in several ‘worship’ conferences
Larger events in the UK range from being involved in leading worship at a Women’s conference in Northern Ireland, or at the Discipleship conference in Eastbourne, from Spring Harvest to Easter People to Roots – the Salvation Army conference planned for 2005
She was also involved in leading worship on both the Tearfund [a Christian Action charity] and the Care for the Family [Prodigal] tours in 2003.
Geraldine runs several teaching weekends usually working closely with music groups all over the country and in her hometown – Bristol
There are also opportunities to lead worship and facilitate team at her local church, while conducting workshops in schools, with youth drama groups and performances at charity events [including Carol Services for the local radio station]
She has also been seen on BBC Songs of Praise a few times and has released 2 solo albums and contributed to several ‘live worship’ albums to date. Her third solo album recorded in Los Angeles is called ‘Surprising’. [Released June 05] - This is available on the mission:worship store.
Whether it is running vocal workshops, music group ‘clinics’, teaching on worship, singing with teenage mothers at their school, introducing new songs or leading worship, singing at weddings, recording in Nashville, working with a team or an individual, Geraldine is concerned to keep the focal point on loving the Lord our God with everything - the context being the whole of our lives, and praying that this will impact the world that Jesus Christ died to save…the world God so loves.
She knows that she can only do this as empowered by the Sovereign Holy Spirit, and she knows too that she is no expert – just one who wishes to remain listening, learning and worshipping.
